Kat Robertson // Make-Up Artist

Meet Kat Robertson // Make-Up Artist

LOCAL 798

I am a Make-Up Artist who loves playing with special effects! I enjoy the art of telling a story and being a part of the creative process. Make-up is a component in filmmaking that is most effective when it is subtle; creating the illusion of reality.

I am also a visual and performance artist with over 20 years of experience in the artistic and communicative fields of theatre, film and fashion. When I’m not working on a set, I enjoy writing poetry and painting with watercolors. My most recent publication – LIGHT OF TRUTH: A Love Journey, is a book of original poetry and watercolors, and the cornerstone of my multi-media performance piece, Poetry ‘n Art in Motion. For fun I play the Tricera Surdo drum with Samba Savannah. :-)

"I've directed 12 feature films and Kat was without a doubt one of the best I've ever worked with. Not only is she a terrific artist, she was a delight to be around on set. I can't say enough good things about her and her work. I highly recommend her to anyone. "

George Gallo, Director of Poison Rose

"Artistic, collaborative, talented and completely professional, Kat L. is a joy to work with. She is fun and enthusiastic but also focused with a non-paralleled attention to detail. Her experience is evident with every decision and suggestion she makes and she also follows directions to completion. A trustworthy subordinate as well as an exceptional leader, I highly recommend Kat L."

Rick Walls, Director, docu-drama L-EVATED

PRODUCTION STORIES

While working on a music video that shot in Philly, I witnessed the craziest thing. The talent in the video were three rappers who decided they wanted to jump off a roof for effect; the young director thought it was a great idea! (I did not, it was the first shot of the day. Safety was a factor not even considered.) As the make-up artist, very little credence was given to my words of caution and strong suggestion that the stunt be re-considered or at least moved to the later part of the day. Needless to say, the rapper who thought he would bounce when he landed upon the concrete sprained/fractured his ankle. Although in pain, like a trooper he continued on through the day.
